We hope you were able to watch January 28th's episode of Shark Tank, but if you weren't, here's our recap of how it went!
The pitch began with a literal burst of excitement as body builder Dan Ziegler came barreling through a “brick wall,” doughnut in hand. The Sharks gasped and jumped at the surprise. Marquez and Ondrea had their attention, but would they capitalize on it?
They talked a bit about their company as the Sharks devoured the doughnuts. Step 1 (grab their attention) had succeeded. Step 2 (hope they love the product) was underway. Ondrea and Marquez weren’t kept waiting in suspense; the Sharks’ satisfaction with the product was immediately evident. Step 2 was a roaring success. The Sharks loved the doughnuts. Would they make any offers, though?
Barbara Corcoran got the ball rolling, and to Team Dough Bar’s delight, she wasn’t the only Shark who wanted to bite. Lori Greiner gushed over the product. "I think I actually like it better than a real doughnut," she said, following up the compliment with an offer. That’s when Alex Rodriguez threw his hat in the ring, requesting to go in with Lori. Their joint offer would cost Marquez and Ondrea more equity, but it would come with a higher payout.
Barbara wasn’t ready to surrender. She dropped to 25% equity, still offering the 300k Ondrea and Marquez initially proposed. After a bit of good natured bickering from the Sharks, Marquez and Ondrea shared a knowing look, had a quick, quiet conversation, and followed their instincts.
“Barbara, thank you for your offer,” said Marquez.
“That doesn't sound good,” said Barbara.
“Would you be willing to go down to 20 percent?”
Barbara thought for a moment, but then she agreed. Ondrea wiped at her tears as Barbara approached to hug the elated couple. Marquez and Ondrea could not be more excited about where this partnership with Barbara will lead. One thing’s for sure: The Dough Bar is busier than ever, and it seems like everyone is ready to jump aboard the protein doughnut train.
